Blue Cactus Cantina ( Murfreesboro, Tennessee) *review*

Foodie that I am, this place is probably one of my favorite spots. The owner David Richard is also the chef of this establishment and keeps his guests coming back for more. Blue Cactus Cantina is known for its Southwest-Cajun food. So if you like southern food AND Cajun food, or just prefer one over the other, you’ll be wishing this place was open 24 hours. Why should you go here, when we are constantly seeing restaurant after restaurant pop up due to the rapid expansion on the Middle Tennessee area? I’m here to tell you.

Blue Cactus gives you the choice to sit inside or outside on the shaded patio. Being a 70 something degree day I opted for the patio seating. I was instantly greeted by my server Tamara, who also happens to be the General Manger. I decided to start off with their home-made fruit tea and Cajun Fondue for an appetizer. Served with focaccia bread the fondue is definitely something that you can order as a meal if you like since it is extremely filling. Seafood lovers will enjoy the spicy kick of the tomato cream, mushrooms, spinach, shrimp and craw fish in this dish.

The menu is not overwhelmingly complicated with dishes like other restaurants such as Cheesecake Factory. However, I still had trouble deciding what to order. Let’s face it you guys; everything on this menu from the 12-Spice Mac n Cheese to the Boudin Craw fish Burger is mouthwatering. After what felt like forever, I finally picked the Po’boy Shrimp Sandwich served on toasted bread with fresh tomatoes, lettuce and their sauce made specifically for the sandwich. Since Tennessee is nowhere near water where fresh seafood is available, I don’t typically order seafood. I was shocked by how large the pieces of shrimp on my sandwich were! In short, after hardcore demolishing my fondue and guzzling down a few glasses of fruit tea I could only eat a few bites of my entree and the fries that were served with it.

Overall, to those wanting to know, I give this place a 5 out of 5. The service is always wonderful and the food comes out quick and hot. Plus, the prices are well worth it.
